FAQ

Common questions about private boat closings.

Plain-language answers about deposit handling, ID status, licence-transfer timing, and service fees.

What is the HarbourClose Client Deposit Account?

For eligible Guided Process and Boat Sale with a Coordinator files, the buyer sends the deposit to the HarbourClose Client Deposit Account by wire or certified funds. HarbourClose records the deposit, and release follows the signed agreement's written instructions.

Does HarbourClose choose terms for me?

No. HarbourClose provides standardized documents, an organized boat-sale workflow, and administrative support. Users choose the terms, conditions, and outcomes.

Who sees my ID?

The other party only sees an ID status badge. ID images and sensitive details are private to HarbourClose admin access and retained according to the privacy policy.

How long do I have to transfer a Pleasure Craft Licence?

Transport Canada says the buyer must transfer a current Pleasure Craft Licence into their name before operating and submit the application within 30 days of purchase. HarbourClose offers PCL Transfer Assistance for eligible files; a Pleasure Craft Licence is not proof of ownership, and federally registered vessels follow a different process.

Are service fees refundable?

Before payment, HarbourClose shows when work begins and the cancellation or refund terms that apply to the selected service. Once payment is completed and HarbourClose begins that work, the fee is generally earned and non-refundable where the law permits. Mandatory provincial or territorial consumer rights still apply.
